The Invincible-class ships suffered from limited aiming angles for their side turrets, so the turrets of the next three battlecruisers were distributed in a more versatile way. HMS Indefatigable was laid down in 1909 and commissioned in 1911 as part of the 1st Battlecruiser Squadron.
