In 1938, after the decommissioning of battleship Anáhuac—the former Brazilian Deodoro—Mexico planned to strengthen the fleet with a large ship and buy out cruiser Navarra from Spain, which in the Mexican Navy could have received the name "Vicente Guerrero."
